Welcome to Grants Contemporary Art

As an experienced artist and art dealer, I have developed a fine eye for finding the best in contemporary art and have established a reputation from when I had the gallery.

As people told me they enjoyed visiting the gallery, as it is both beautiful and informal I decided to continue doing my own art and developed and moved to this lovely studio. To create Oil paintings, Water Colours, Etchings, Ceramics, Acrylics and mixed medias, Jewellery, Stained Glass Art, Felt pictures and Bone carving.

The studio is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Barnard Castle, ‘The Ancient Medieval House', reputedly part of the old castle morgue, a stone lintel above the stage door carries the inscription ‘O Remember Man is Mortal' a reminder to us to us all to enjoy life.

The town with its beautiful surrounding countryside stands on the edge of the river Tees and the area has, over the years, attracted many artists by its beauty. Turner painted numerous views of the ruined castle, nearby remains of Egglestone Abbey and the river itself. Diego Velázquez's famous 17th Century “Rokeby Venus” originated at Rokeby Manor, the original is in the National Gallery and a copy in Rokeby Hall.

There is so much to see and do in Teesdale, search our local online gateway.

Another website which might be of interest is www.art-mine.com. This is one of the most comprehensive contemporary fine art resources available worldwide.
Art-Mine.com provides contemporary art for sale to collectors, consultants, architects and interior designers, providing an opportunity to view and purchase fine art for their art projects.

Above all, I hope to have created a gallery that makes art accessible. You can
visit the Bowes museum and view the world class art on display, then wander
along to my gallery and purchase a piece or a print from a local contemporary
professional artist and start your own collection.
